[EN] The American vocalist and actress Abbey Lincoln first gained recognition in the 1950s under the name Gaby Lee as a pop singer and film actress (The Girl Can't Help It). In the late 1950s, she married drummer Max Roach and participated with him in several important recordings with Sonny Rollins, Coleman Hawkins, Benny Golson, and others. It was the fabulous "Freedom Now Suite," recorded in 1960 with Max Roach, that made her famous with the general public. Twenty years later, associated with another great African-American dissident, saxophonist Archie Shepp, in Paris, she created this historic album for the Marge label, one of the most beautiful meetings between two legendary figures of contemporary jazz.

Harry Beckett was an extraordinary trumpet player from England that died in 2010. He was not a household name, receiving the recognition he deserved, but the music he left behind speaks volumes. He worked with Mingus among others Rob O.
This quintet has acquired legendary status as a working unit...all the musicians are exemplary at their craft and DD is one of my 'Big5'...he is an exquisite composer of both depth and breadth of vision...you can instantly recognise Dave's DNA in a tune...what's more, you feel there is also so much more to come!;his powers of expression are so special.
These compositions are from the heart and I can only suggest that you take them to yours...
