[EN] Other Dimensions In Music is a free jazz ensemble from the United States that was formed in the 1980s. The quartet is a collective effort featuring trumpeter Roy Campbell, multi-instrumentalist Daniel Carter, bassist William Parker, and drummer Rashid Bakr. Campbell, Parker, and Bakr initially collaborated as part of Jemeel Moondoc's ensemble called Muntu. In 1981, the addition of Daniel Carter marked the birth of Other Dimensions In Music. Their third album, "Time is of the Essence is Beyond Time," is a live recording in collaboration with pianist Matthew Shipp. In their subsequent recording, "Live at the Sunset," drummer Hamid Drake steps in for Bakr. Their work on "Kaiso Stories" sees the quartet providing musical support for vocalist Fay Victor. While the group's music is entirely improvised, it often surprises listeners with its strong melodic elements, which may not be what some expect from the realm of free jazz.
