[EN] Multi-instrumentalist but primarily a pianist, Siggy, born in Saarbrücken in 1935, tragically drowned after falling from his boat in La Grande-Motte on the night of January 21-22, 2007. However, thanks to this record, we rediscover the pianist (who had settled in Paris in 1967 and played alongside visiting Americans) deeply immersed in the free jazz movement with seasoned companions in this adventure. He liberates himself from his formal studies (twelve years at the conservatory in his hometown), breaks away from the constraints of standard chord progressions, and embarks on a journey of freedom that eventually led him to become the chosen partner of Archie Shepp for nearly a decade. This trio is characterized by experimentation and discovery, moments of abandon and exploration, during which Siggy gradually uncovers his own musical identity. In the same year, another pianist recorded for Terronès: Georges Arvanitas (1931-2005), In concert (Futura GER 11). Two pianists, two styles, two formidable talents.

[FR] Multi-instrumentiste mais surtout pianiste, Siggy, né à Sarrebruck en 1935, est mort noyé, tombé de son bateau à la Grande-Motte dans la nuit du 21 au 22 janvier 2007… … et voilà que, grâce à ce disque, on retrouve le pianiste (installé à Paris en 1967 où il joue en compagnie des américains de passage) en pleine mouvance free avec des compagnons chevronnés dans cette aventure. Il s’affranchit donc de ses études (douze ans au conservatoire de sa ville natale), des grilles des standards et fait l’apprentissage de la liberté qui le conduira a devenir notamment le partenaire choisi par/de Archie Shepp pendant une dizaine d’années. Trio en recherche et en trouvailles, moments d’abandon ou d’exploration au cours desquels Siggy se découvre peu à peu avant de forger son propre langage. La même année, un autre pianiste enregistrait pour Terronès : Georges Arvanitas (1931-2005), In concert (Futura GER 11). Deux pianistes, deux styles, deux talents, forts.
