Archie Shepp Attica Blues Big Band in Paris

[EN] Archie Shepp's Attica Blues Big Band is a modern reinterpretation in Big Band style of what was arguably the saxophonist's most ambitious work. The album Attica Blues, released in 1972 on the Impulse! label, was a committed response to the 1971 riots at the notorious Attica prison, which resulted in 39 deaths. Archie Shepp, then a prominent figure in free jazz and civil rights activism, composed this funky cry of protest, this furious and groovy fresco that merged blues, soul, funk, and jazz. Attica Blues Big Band is the live big band version recorded at the Palais des Glaces in Paris in 1979, featuring Ray Copeland, Kamal Alim, Roy Burrowes, Charles McGhee, Eddie Preston, Malachi Thompson, Charles Greenlee, Dick Griffin, Ray Harris, Charles Stephens, Steve Turre, Marvin Blackman, Marion Brown, Patience Higgins, John Purcell, James Ware, Art Matthews, Clyde Crymer, Brandon Ross, Candice Greene, Terry Jenoure, Carl Ector, Akua Dixon, Hakim Jami, Avery Sharpe, Clifford Jarvis, Kevin Jones, Irene Datcher, Akua Dixon, Terry Jenoure & Joe Lee Wilson.
