[EN] Those who remember the magnificent Pentacle quintet (2002), featuring two trumpets (Michel Marre and Jean-Luc Cappozzo), will rediscover the pleasure of hearing Sophia Domancich's music when "blowers" take hold of it. I would go so far as to say that the pianist's writing for a small ensemble fills the space in France not occupied by this jazz that is both highly advanced and, at the same time, strongly structured, which existed in Great Britain with emblematic musicians such as Tubby Hayes, Dizzy Reece, and of course, Joe Harriott (see the indispensable ten-CD box set "European Jazz, New Sounds From The Old Continent" by Membran). Add to that the pleasure of a production that involves Gérard Terronès (who unfortunately left us on March 16) and the entire team at La Dynamo de Pantin, the perfection of Nasheet Waits' drumming, the attentive precision of Hélène Labarrière, the controlled audacity of Géraldine Laurent, and the incredible liveliness of a fully authentic Ray Anderson, and you will understand that when it comes to choice, I don't hesitate. In this music, there is enthusiasm, suspense, tenderness, and in a way, yes, a sense of inevitability. That it belongs to Alice (Lewis Carroll) only confirms my reference to the one considered perfidious: Albion. - Philippe Méziat / Citizen Jazz -

[FR] Ceux qui se souviennent du magnifique quintette de Pentacle (2002), avec deux trompettes (Michel Marre et Jean-Luc Cappozzo) retrouveront ici le plaisir d’entendre la musique de Sophia Domancich quand des « souffleurs » s’en emparent. J’irai jusqu’à dire que l’écriture de la pianiste pour petite formation comble l’espace non occupé en France par ce jazz à la fois très avancé et en même temps fortement structuré qui a existé en Grande Bretagne, avec comme musiciens emblématiques Tubby Hayes, Dizzy Reece, et bien sûr Joe Harriott (cf l’indispensable petit coffret de dix CD European Jazz, New Sounds From The Old Continent Membran).
Ajoutez à cela le plaisir d’une production qui associe Gérard Terronès (qui nous a, hélas, quittés le 16 mars) et toute l’équipe de la Dynamo de Pantin, la perfection du drumming de Nasheet Waits, la précision attentive d’Hélène Labarrière, les audaces maîtrisées de Géraldine Laurent, et l’incroyable vivacité d’un Ray Anderson pleinement lui-même, et vous comprendrez qu’en matière d’élection, je n’hésite pas. Il y a dans cette musique de l’emportement, du suspens, de la tendresse, en quelque sorte oui, de l’évidence. Qu’elle soit celle d’Alice (Lewis Carroll) ne fait que confirmer mon allusion à celle qu’on dit perfide : Albion. - Philippe Méziat / Citizen Jazz -
