[EN] American drummer Roy Haynes made a name for himself in the jazz scene by playing in Luis Russell's big band and later with Lester Young. He catapulted into the be-bop era in the early 1940s, replacing Max Roach in Charlie Parker's band. He went on to perform with all the great masters of this new jazz style and spent five years accompanying vocalist Sarah Vaughan before continuing his career with equally important and diverse musicians such as Thelonious Monk, Stan Getz, Eric Dolphy, Lee Konitz, Sonny Rollins, Gary Burton, John Coltrane, and more recently, Chick Corea and Pat Metheny. Simultaneously, he formed a group called the "Hip Ensemble," featuring musicians like Marvin Peterson and Georges Adams. In 1979, he recorded this album for the Blue Marge label in a live performance in Paris, as part of a quartet with young American musicians.

My god, what an absolutely incredible Suite. I'll admit, I've struggled to get into Pharoah Sanders due to diving headfirst into some of his most challenging catalogue and that never worked. This is the perfect place to restart. Floating Points is new for me and I can honestly say I've never heard synthesizer music this lush and organic before. the LSO is just perfect. This is one of those albums that any serious music fan needs in their life. The perfect swan song for the great Pharaoh! 5/5 ClassyMusicSnob
